1 level · First purchase 1275 StardustTo get Blastoise, unlock Squirtle as a League partner, start a run with it and follow its evolution path: Squirtle (Lv. 1) → Wartortle (Lv. 24) → Blastoise (Lv. 44). Blastoise is an evolved form of that run’s partner, not a separate League starting choice.
On a fresh session, select Squirtle from the three first-partner choices. That choice makes Squirtle your first League member. If you already chose a different starter, continue with the partner you own; you do not need to erase your progress or start a new account.
Squirtle’s League challenge is to complete 2 runs, win or lose. A clear is not required. Check the challenge in the League after those attempts: completing it makes the partner available for the encounter-and-capture step, rather than immediately adding it to your selectable roster.
If Squirtle was not your initial partner, find its challenge encounter in the following run. Defeat or weaken it until the game marks it ready for capture, then move close and use the capture input shown on screen to throw your Poké Ball. Do not leave the encounter or take the exit while it is still waiting to be caught. Completing the challenge and defeating the encounter are separate from actually capturing it.
Check the League after the capture and select Squirtle when you start the run you want to play. A Pokédex sighting only records that you have seen a species. A shiny catch unlocks a look but does not substitute for the normal challenge-and-capture requirement; a captured Alpha fights beside you for that run and does not join your League.
Start this run as Squirtle and keep collecting experience until your run reaches level 24. This is the PokeBonk evolution checkpoint for Wartortle, not the evolution level from the main Pokémon games. Raising an individual attack to that level does not count: attack levels and your run level are different. This gives you Wartortle; stay in the same run and continue leveling for Blastoise.
Start this run as Squirtle and keep collecting experience until your run reaches level 44. This is the PokeBonk evolution checkpoint for Blastoise, not the evolution level from the main Pokémon games. Raising an individual attack to that level does not count: attack levels and your run level are different. You now have Blastoise as your active form in this run.
After the run ends, choose Squirtle again for another attempt and reach the same evolution checkpoint to play as Blastoise. Seeing or reaching Blastoise does not turn it into an independent level-1 League partner. The family’s passive, kit offers and Ultimate progression follow the run you started with Squirtle.
Armor and a starting shield make Squirtle a sensible learning pick. The B placement reflects what happens after that initial shield is spent: the low-health damage bonus does not supply healing.
Upgrade the attacks clearing your path; work toward Rapid Spin plus Hydro Pump only when both stay useful.

Unlock Squirtle, start a run with it, and follow Squirtle at run Lv. 1 → Wartortle at run Lv. 24 → Blastoise at run Lv. 44. Blastoise is reached through that run’s evolution path rather than selected as a separate level-1 League member.
Blastoise is the final recorded form on Squirtle’s standard path in the reviewed v0.8.62 data. It is reached at run level 44. Continuing to level improves the run but does not add another standard evolution to this path.
Blastoise is an evolved form reached during a Squirtle run, not an independent starting choice. Compare Squirtle’s opening kit when choosing a partner, then plan how that run will reach Blastoise and support its later attacks.
The Squirtle family uses Hydro Spiral: combine Rapid Spin and Hydro Pump. Both ingredient attacks need attack level 8 before using Bill’s Machine. These are attack levels, not run levels. Evolution into Blastoise does not automatically equip the ingredients or complete the fusion.
For a build centered on Hydro Spiral, Calcium supports its special damage. For the other slots, compare recovery or movement with Squirtle’s existing protection rather than taking only damage. These are build directions, not a requirement to fill all three base slots with one fixed combination.
A shiny catch unlocks the family’s shiny look but does not replace the normal League challenge and capture for Squirtle. You must still start as Squirtle and evolve during the run to use Blastoise; the shiny look does not make the evolved form a separate starting partner.
